| Frontline Worship Institute
The mission statement of Frontline Worship Institute is this: "We are a company called by God to develop worship leaders, artists and musicians who won't let their talent take them where their character can't sustain them." Our goal is to train students that will go out into the world and the music industry and not be compromised, but truly last for God. The foundation of the music institute is the fundamentals of discipleship that are embodied by Master's Commission, and that is the rock that we build our program on. We train our students in every area of music, but first and foremost we disciple them.
The Frontline Worship Institute is one of the only music programs in the world that focuses on developing character as well as talent. Here a student's character is given much more value than their talent alone. It is more important to instill integrity and character into one of our students than to have a whole group of talented people who will go out into the music industry, be successful by the world's standards, but fall on their face because their relationship with God disintegrates.
The institute is a 3 year program where students come and are trained and discipled, after which they are ready to go and live the calling God has given them. Whether they are placed in a church or signed to a label, 8-side or any other, they will have the knowledge and experience necessary to succeed not only at their craft, but as people of God.
Frontline Worship Institute Class Descriptions
Vocal Classes: These classes are divided into 3 levels depending upon the knowledge and ability the students already have. Those levels are, beginning, developing, and advanced. In these classes, students will learn many techniques for vocal improvement including but not limited to breathing exercises, tone, vocal control, and ear training.
Songwriting: These classes are divided according to the student's ability and experience as well. Not only do the songwriting classes focus on basic technique and song structure, but they are very creatively challenging as well. Class size is very small, to allow for more focused one-on-one attention for each student. Here they will learn different brainstorming techniques, song structure, chord progressions, how to write a hook, and many other tools necessary to become a successful songwriter in any genre.
Worship Leading: In the worship leading class, students are challenged to go beyond the premise of the "get up on stage and sing songs" mentality. The students are taught everything about the technical side of leading worship including order of service, working with a band, transitions and ad libs. But, in this class, the students are challenged to go further, learning how to lead and disciple a team, how to train the heart of a song, how to carry the responsibility that comes with leading people into worship. Each week the students have a creative and original teaching focusing on the different things they will face being worship leaders. Worship is not merely a song, but a lifestyle as well. This class really focuses on growing the character and integrity of the students so that when they leave to go lead worship, they will be sustained by their character, not their talent alone.
Instrument Lessons: Rather than have the students sit in instrument classes, we offer the opportunity to take one-on-one lessons with one of our instrument teachers. Guitar, piano, and drums are the instruments currently offered, with individually tailored lessons to meet each student's specific needs.
Spanish: Once a week our students take a beginning Spanish class focusing on the basics of the language. This class focuses on vocabulary and basic sentence structure. It is said that you can communicate with 2/3 of the world if you can speak both English and Spanish. With this class, our students will have more opportunities to reach the world they live in.
Music Theory: In this class each student will learn the basics of music theory. This class includes basic note reading, chords, scales, key and time signatures, and basic rhythm. Whether a vocalist or musician, it is vital to have a basic knowledge of how music works. In this class the students start at the beginning and work their way through.
Sound: In the sound class our students are taught the basics of how to set up and run a sound system. One thing that is very important but often overlooked is the ability to work with your sound man. This class will take the guesswork out of communicating with a sound man, as well as prepare the students if they ever have to run sound themselves. They will be fully capable of setting up and running sound for the many outreaches and events we have in Master's Commission.
Creative Class: Once a week our students get a break from the classroom setting, and have an opportunity to get creative with different projects. This class is an opportunity for our students to exercise their creativity and really learn to think outside the box. Students are challenged to come up with original ideas and new ways of doing things. In addition, they have the opportunity to write a production including music, lyrics, and speaking parts. The focus of this class is to shatter the idea of "what's always been done" and really get the students to be original and innovative.
Church Business: This class focuses on the work that happens behind the scenes. Here the students will learn CCLI, the different programs used to put the words of the songs up on projection screens, how to copyright the songs they've written, and many promotional and marketing techniques.
